Prepare to become a Joey Scout
Joey Scouts is for boys and girls aged 5–8. It focuses on fun and friendship and is a gentle introduction to a world of adventures through Scouting.
A young person can join the Joey Section at any time after their 5th birthday provided they are attending school full time.
Joeys are encouraged to discover adventure by expressing themselves creatively, using broad imagination and play through games, stories and craft activities. From building monsters and spaceships from scrap items, to growing plants from seedlings and singing songs together, all Joeys develop a strong sense of belonging and an understanding of the world around them. They also begin to develop outdoor skills, learning how to recognise native birds and animals and foster an understanding of the impact of our modern world on the environment.
Making new friends and building social skills are very important for Joeys. For some, belonging to Joey Scouts provides an opportunity to mix with a new group of people, developing their confidence and ability to make new friends. Joey Scout families are welcome to get involved too! There’s lots of opportunities for the whole family to make new friends and feel part of the community.
A trained Joey Scout Leader guides a Joey Mob of up to 20 boys and girls as they learn to share and care for each other in a social environment. The safety of all Joeys is very important, which is why there are always leaders on hand during all activities.
